Course Syllabus
Abstract
This course gives the main information about the role of the journalism as profession and practical activity in international relations and international environment (mainly focused on international relations and international policy). The principal methodology of this course is learning-by-doing method which is based on practical approach and the case studies of international media. The students will master basic skills for conceptual analysis of modern international media. The course is structured and a unique combination of introductory lectures and wide range of seminars which will highlight various types media topics. The objective of this course is to solidity the skills of the students that they acquired during the courses that give them an overview of modern international trends in various topics. Thus course mostly focuses on the development of various media platfroms and modern media outlets. The course gives students an opportunity to track the media development in social networks and alternative platforms. Special attention will be paid to the development of the story ideas in various English-speaking outlets.

- Overview of international media environment.Formation of modern media environment. Transformation of the role of the journalist in the modern media. News-based media vs commentary-based media. Strategy of Personalized News.
- Landscape of Mainstream International Media.Media roles in the post-truth era. Transformation of mainstream values at the post-truth era. Online transitions for the mainstream media. Transfromation of fair treatment by international media.
- Alternative media and their online development.Origin of alternative media coverage. Strategies for the development of the alternative media. Features of alternative media. Topics and angles in the mainstream and alternative media. Critical approach for the alternative media. Grassroots values for alternative media.
- How Newspapers work online.Transformation of newspapers. Realities of the online electoral process. Real threats and fakes in the process. Hot topics and their treatment for international audience. Major changes in the structure of articles. Modern multimedia formats for online newspapers.
- Radio migration to digital sphere (local ws worldvide, radio aggregators).Radio transformation Digital, analog, local , international. Podcast as an online radio extension. Development of opinion radio for multimedia environment.
- Television news online.Changing of tools for television news. Storyteller’s role and its sighnificans. Development of new visual formats in the online media. Problems for visual portrayal of major international events.
- Genuine online media.Online media advantages and disadvantages. Correlations of various online approaches for new presentation. Online media and the social networks. Problem of online sources verification.
- Cross-platform analysis of the key international topics.Individual projects that are focused on the case study of major international news that are presented on various platforms.
