Course Syllabus
Abstract
This course aims at providing guidance in writing MA dissertations. The Research seminar strengthens research skills and introduces students to diverse methodologies. During the first year, this research seminar teaches students basic aspects of a historian’s craft. The course works as a workshop and includes: 1) Seminars on major methods in history; 2) a short mini-course on Academic Rhetoric; 3) joined seminars with students of the second years; 4) project sessions discussing provisional MA theses.
Learning Objectives
- To introduce students to basic requirements for writing a MA thesis
- To help students finding a relevant doable research focus
- To master students' skill of writing and thinking on paper
- To stimulate an interdepartmental cross-disciplinary scholarly dialogue
