Course Syllabus

Abstract

Students are studying a course devoted to history and theory of design, facing the problems of the contemporary design field. The course is being taught in a blended-learning format (Coursera based courses are preferred).

Learning Objectives

  • Developing and upgrading the design-thinking, facing the challenges of the contemporary globalized art world and market.
  • The objectives of mastering the discipline "Modern Design" is the formation of students basic knowledge in the field of culture and design XX-XXI centuries. The discipline "Modern Design" is designed to form a basic understanding of the evolution of cultural processes and aesthetic principles in design.
Expected Learning Outcomes

  • Students get a versatile view of modern design thinking
  • The student is able to critically evaluate and rethink the accumulated experience (own and others), to reflect professional and social activities
  • The student is able to determine promising trends in the design and transformation of modern artistic ideas, methods and tools in order to introduce them into professional activities
  • The student is able to understand various types, genres, styles of fine, decorative and applied art and design
  • The student is able to work with information: find, evaluate and use information from various sources necessary for solving scientific and professional problems (including on the basis of a systematic approach)
