Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course "Иностранный язык (русский)" is desingned for the students who already have some basic knowledge of Russian at the A1 level. A goal of the course is to improve and structurise students` knowledge of the Russian language while doing all kinds of activities including reading, listening, writing and speaking practices. The course material is organized by topics of every-day life and professional vocabulary.

Learning Objectives

  • To form basic abilities and skills in the main types of speech activity (reading, writing, listening, speaking) at the level A2
  • To develop conversational skills: initiating and maintaining small talks, discussing texts on different subjects of everyday life, giving and understanding advice, orders and instructions
  • To introduce students to the sociocultural pecularities of language behaviour in Russian and differences between it and their native language

Expected Learning Outcomes

  • Students know how and when to use different cases
  • Students know how to use Accusative case and can talk about their travel routine in everyday life
  • Students know how to use Dative case and how to talk about holidays and presents. Students can read, understan, produce oral and written texts on this topic.
  • Students know hot to use Genitive case and to talk about their family and belongings
  • Students know how to use Instrumental case and can talk about their food preferences, can order food in the restaurant etc
  • Students know how to use Prepositional case in oral and written language
  • Students can understand the difference between Perfective and Imperfective verbs and talk about their life using these forms.
  • Students can understand the difference between different types of verbs of motion and use it talking about their everyday life.
  • Students can use and understand phrases with comparative and superlative degree
  • Students know how to form and understand complex phrases both in written and oral language.

Course Contents

  • The idea of cases. System of cases. Nominative case. Learning languages.
    Introduce the case system of Russian language, talk about the situations of usage of each case with the focus on Nominative case. Vocabulary concerning language learning.
  • Accusative case. Where are you going today?
    Introduicing and revising of Accusative case, talking about hobbies, places to visit, interesting activities
  • Dative case. Hoidays.
    Introduicing the Dative case, talking about holidays and presents
  • Genitive case. Me and my family. What do I have and have not.
    Using and meaning of Genitive case on the materials of the topic of family and posessions.
  • Instrumental Case. Restaurants. Food.
    Introduicing the usage of Instrumental case on the base of food vocabulary. Texts about food tradiotions, situations in the restaurant
  • Prepositional case. Around the city. University life.
    Introduicing and revisinf of Prepositional case talking about university and city life.
  • Verbs aspect. Everyday rutine.
  • Verbs of motion with and without prefixes. Travelling abroad.
  • Comparative and superlative degree of adjectives and adverbs. Talking about our preferences.
  • Complex phrases in Russian.
    Phrases with если/если бы, conjonctions что, чтобы, хотя, несмотря на etc.
