Course Syllabus
Abstract
Life safety is an introductory course aimed at familiarizing first-year students with the peculiarities of HSE (academic and extracurricular). This discipline also focuses on the rules of personal safety in the metropolis. Students can find videos on topics in their LMS account. Learning and evaluation is carried out in an electronic educational environment on digital materials; the course is accompanied by master classes of representatives of the University who are responsible for the thematic sections of the discipline program. Methodological support of the discipline is carried out by the Student Development Office. The Programme Manager provides organizational and consulting support of passing of discipline. The report card are signed by the Director of the Student Development Office or the Manager of the Study Office.
Learning Objectives
- the acquisition by students of knowledge, skills and abilities to ensure the safety necessary for professional activities
- to assist students in mastering the basic concepts and methods of ensuring the safety of human life
- the acquisition by students of knowledge in the field of the modern academic information environment, methods of disseminating information
- to form a holistic view of modern mechanisms of influence on the most important spheres of security in public and educational life
- psychological and social adaptation to university education, as a result of which the student will be able to formulate personal and professional plans
- to contribute to the acquisition of practical skills in the aspects of ensuring the safety of students in the framework of life at the University, in a big city (Moscow), as well as skills of personal safety in the information and psychological spheres
- to contribute to the acquisition by students of knowledge, skills and security necessary for social and professional activities
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Is aware of HSE corporate culture: how to communicate with professors, staff and administrative crew
- Knows about career opportunities: Career fair, academic career, corporate sector
- Knows and uses tools of academic development at the HSE University
- Knows basic information about HSE University, understands how it operates and is aware of adminisrative hierarchy
- Knows general rules of conduct in case of emergency
- Knows how to apply to the military department
- Knows how to use basic safety equipment
- Passed the adaptation program
- Knows HSE and UoL Parallel Degree Programme in International Relations Code of Conduct
- Knows the peculiarities of studying at Double Degree Programme at the HSE University

Assessment Elements
- HomeworkHomework assignments for students are represented in the corresponding course in the LMS system. There are 3 types of homework assignments, one of them should be chosen during 3-8th of September 2019 (till 23.00) via LMS system. The result of the work shall be uploaded according to the deadline (for 2019-2020 academic year it is scheduled on 23.00 of the 6th October 2019). In case the assignment is not uploaded, student is scored with 0. Home assignment is checked in the period between 7 and 20 October 2019.
- Online examThe exam will be conducted via LMS platform in specified period of session.
