Course Syllabus
Abstract
The course focuses on the following issues:
Linguistic and cultural characteristics of a linguistic personality.
Linguistic personality vs. Communicative personality.
Psychotype as a linguocultural phenomenon.
Semantics and pragmatics of communicative behavior.
Basic personality vs. Linguocultural type.
Linguocultural types as an object of linguocultural research.
Learning Objectives
- Developing students’ linguacultural competencies in the field of linguapersonology: 1. to know the approaches, mechanisms and methods of interpreting linguistic consciousness and communicative behavior; 2. to be able to identify and classify cultural, social, linguistic and communicative stereotypes of perception of reality; 3. to develop the skills of analyzing and interpreting linguacultural types as typified representatives of ethnosociocultural communities that serve as the keys to understanding linguacultures; 4. to do the in-depth research in the field of linguistic personology.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Students conceptualize and analyze a “linguistic personality” as identity
- Students distinguish linguistic, cultural, and social characteristics of a linguistic personality
- Students draw distinction between linguistic and communicative personalities
- Students analyze the semantics and pragmatics of communicative behavior
- Students interpret the concept of “basic personality” in respect to linguacultural types
- Students analyze the conceptual triad: national character – social character – basic personality
- Students model archetype, prototype, and psychotype as linguacultural phenomena
- Students analyze linguacultural types from the perspective of stereotyping
- Students model linguacultural types from cross-cultural perspective
- Students categorize linguacultural types
- Students apply different classifications for the analysis of linguacultural types
- Students model linguacultural types from cognitive and interactional perspectives
- Students apply comparative, narrative and discourse analysis as methods of research in the field of linguapersonology
