Course Syllabus

Abstract

This module examines the reporting practices of political journalists, the institutional contexts of political journalism, and the interactions between journalists and sources across different forms of political reportage. It assesses the power of governmental communication, and the changing nature of contemporary political journalism. Forms of political reportage that will be investigated include: parliamentary reporting, political commentary, interviews and press conferences, and the role of social media in political reportage.

  • Describe the main aspects of the ethical perspectives, such as Consequentialism, Utilitarianism, Virtue Ethics, Deontology, Care Ethics and Feminine Ethics
  • Review the relationship between these perspectives and the field of Communication
  • Review the way of thinking in each of these ethical perspectives to an example related to communication via Media
  • Explain the term ‘transmedia storytelling’, and be able to identify examples in popular culture
  • Describe how a story is typically structured, and understand how one story can expand to become a larger storyworld that will become the basis for an entire transmedia story
  • Be able to tell the difference between different types of Media

  • Ability to communicate effectively with different audiences, to deliver her/his message clearly and to tailor it depending on the audience’s age, education, attitude to the speaker, etc.

  • Students are able to use their knowledge and critical thinking abilities to intelligently choose and evaluate journalism published works, and scholarly articles on topics related to the “Global History” course
  • Orient within main fields of journalism as profession
  • - know the basic theoretical approaches to the analysis of digital media the main directions of the modern sociological analysis of digital youth;
  • ● develop research and essay writing skills
  • Ability to adapt text for the platforms and means of media communication (texts for TV and radio).
  • - Be able to paraphrase in speaking and writing;
  • Students will be able to discuss the content, structure, and academic merits of other people’s writing
  • Capacity for reading specialised journalism texts in English.
  • 3. Communicate clearly across a variety of different contexts and to a wide range of audiences by adapting communicative styles appropriately
  • Students are able to apply the basic knowledge of the values, principles and strategies of journalism in their own professional activity;
  • - to improve media literacy and develop a creative approach applicable to a range of professionally relevant tasks (media project management, research)
  • - to sharpen students’ comprehension skills of manifold traditional and emerging (hybrid) types of media products (e.g., professional articles, reports/user-generated content)
  • Ability to use the basic tools of intercultural mediation
  • Students are able to use their knowledge and critical thinking abilities to intelligently consider journalism, published works, and scholarly articles on topics related to modern East Asia.
  • Students will learn to discriminate between the quality journalism and adverse media practices;
