Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course provides students with tools for designing research and policy papers in international relations. Its principal aim is to teach students how the research within the field of international relations is conducted, particularly with the application of theories of IR. The course will provide students with an overview of the main approaches and methods to conducting research in the field, with the particular emphasis on formulation of a research question. Students will be introduced to the way how research questions coherent with particular theoretical framework should be set, in order to prepare for the upcoming course papers and BA thesis.

  • Prepare students for research conduct as part of their undergraduate curriculum (course papers, theses);
  • Master skills in formulating relevant and precise topics and research questions;
  • Show the difference between scientific studies and other written papers, and practical use of scientific inquiry in other spheres of livelihood;
  • Being able to apply appropriate theoretical framework

  • Identify the difference of conducting research in social sciences from other fields
  • Be able to find academic sources, make correct citations and referencing. Distinguish referencing from plagiarism
