Course Syllabus
Abstract
This course is a basic introduction to political science. The course is intended for students studying in the direction of "State and municipal management". The course participants will get acquainted and learn to understand the political world more deeply. In particular, within the framework of this course, students will master the key concepts of political sciences ("power", "authority", "legitimacy", "state", "political regime", "democracy", etc.) , learn the main political ideologies and the differences between them, learn to analyze and interpret political processes and events.

- 2) To teach how to navigate the basic concepts of classical and modern political science
- 3) To introduce the key theoretical works in the field of political science
- 4) To introduce the main tools and programs useful for research activities
Expected Learning Outcomes

- - analyze ideologies of modern political parties and political movements
- - analyze programs of political parties and their role in political systems
- - be able to use various conceptions of power in the analysis of the Russian politics
- - critically evaluate different views on human nature
- - critically evaluate the role and functions performed by the modern states
- - evauate the role of authority in modern world and explain why people obey the state
- Analyzes the differences between political science from other social sciences, applies its methodological framework.
- Evaluates the role of the state as of the most important institution of the political system, analyzes it's key functions.
- Evaluates the differences between political ideologies, interprets the history of their origin and key elements, analyzes their significance in the modern world.
- Analyzes the meaning of political systems and political regimes, and the difference between them; interprets the essential foundations of a democratic regime; evaluates the importance of government in the functioning of the state.
- Analyzes the role of elections in the political system of society, evaluates the different types of electoral systems and party systems, interprets the differences between them and their key features.
- Interprets different types of political leadership, evaluates the role of presidential executives and parliamentary executives in modern politics, analyzes the organizational structures of assemblies in different geographical contexts.
- Interprets different approaches to constitutionalism, evaluates the relationship between law and politics in different political contexts, analyzes the political significance of the courts and the role of judicial power in political system.
- Interprets different approachest to politics of identity; analyzes the meaning of political culture; evaluates the role of media in modern politics and in distribution of political power.
- Interprets the key theories of international relationship and security, analyzes the approaches to multipolarity.
