Course Syllabus

Abstract

This course explores the dynamic landscape of innovation in Asian countries, examining the historical, cultural, economic, political and technological factors that contribute to their unique approaches to innovation. Students will gain insights into the diverse strategies, challenges, and success stories of innovation in various sectors across Asia. The major countries we discuss in the class are East Asia and Southeast Asian countries, such as Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Vietnam. The student will develop in-depth understanding of innovation management in Asia countries. Through the lectures,we will focus on basic concepts,theory,research questions and findings from recent empirical research. Knowledge and innovation have to be at the core of any attempt to improve enterprises' performance and the essential function of any organization. We start with basic concepts and will proceed with issues related to knowledge, innovation, and management strategies in Asian countries.

  • Discuss the impact of globalization and international collaboration on innovation in Asia. Our aim is to enhance the ability of students to develop their own critical thinking. The topics provided us with an opportunity to present a critical assessment of innovation studies research findings on these issues. It aims for students to identify, understand and select which types of knowledge and which types of knowledge creation behaviors and how they will have an impact on the desired competitive advantage by studying successful cases in Asian countries. This course has 5 Learning Goal. Understand the historical and cultural context of innovation in Asian countries. Analyze the economic and technological factors influencing innovation in Asia. Explore case studies of successful innovation in different sectors across Asian countries. Evaluate challenges and opportunities for fostering innovation in Asian economies. Develop a critical perspective on the role of government policies and institutions in promoting innovation.
