Course Syllabus

Abstract

MSc Mentor’s seminar is a compulsory part of the curriculum of the ICEF master’s programme “Financial Economics” for the 1st and 2nd year students. The main goals of the seminar is to develop students' critical and analytical skills, acknowledge them with the modern trends in the sphere of Economics and Finance, to help them in their professional orientation. It is built on interactive learning approaches, where the audience is constantly involved in the discussion process. The seminar is conducted in English during the academic year. It consists in a series of round tables on modern economic and financial topics with visiting experts’ participation and mentor’s meetings with students.

    For the 1st year students deadline for the essay submission is 15th of May, An essay may be submitted earlier, but only after the attendance of the minimum required number of Round tables.
  • non-blocking Round table discussion
    1st year students requirement is to visit at least 4 seminars out of 6 besides introduction seminar. 2nd year students requirement is to visit at least 2 round tables and act as a jury meneber at least at 1. Visiting expert gives a business case task to the team of students in at least 2 weeks before the Round table. In the beginning of the Round table the visiting expert gives a 15 min introduction sharing his/her experience and then organizes a discussion with the students. A team of students prepares a solution to the business case and gives a presentation during the Round table, while another team of students together with the visiting expert act as a jury. Other students can participate in the discussion. The indicative topics of the round tables are: Fintex and financial services prospective Technological startups and entrepreneurship Financial markets under restricted capital flows, effect of sanctions and CBR policy Import substitution and development of Russian economy Direct Investment vs Venture capital funding/ Unicorns Inflation acceleration in the developed countries Climate change, ESG policies and financial regulations Unconventional energy: current situation and future Business development and Mergers&Acquisitions in Russia and worldwide
