Course Syllabus

Abstract

*The course examines microeconomic concepts and theories, as well as the knowledge based on them about the results of modern scientific developments and current business practices. Particular attention is paid to the consideration of aspects of management activities that link microeconomic processes with the ethics of doing business, its social responsibility, sustainable development issues and international aspects of entrepreneurship. Examples of Russian and foreign companies in the conduct of international business are considered, which allows students to form an understanding of the features of economic decision-making in the modern international environment. The practical orientation of the Microeconomics course involves the formation of skills and abilities that are relevant in the future professional activities of managers and entrepreneurs in international markets. In particular, the ability to make management decisions for economic entities based on the analysis of the ratio of their benefits and costs, the marginal approach and other modern microeconomic concepts. The most important skill, formed as a result of the systematic study of the Microeconomics course, is the search and evaluation of new market opportunities and the creation of a business idea. Forms of control include written work, case solving, group project work (independent research by students of market structures in their chosen industry and aimed at developing managerial decision-making skills) and an exam.

  • The goal of mastering the discipline • The goal of learning the discipline "Microeconomics" is to master the basic concepts of microeconomic science for students for subsequent practical use in international business activities. The objectives of the course are to: - introduce the basic concepts of microeconomic theory; - to study the theoretical and methodological principles of microeconomic analysis; - to form basic skills in applying the methods and tools of microeconomic analysis; - develop the ability to make informed management decisions based on a systematic understanding of the complex of microeconomic factors that affect business development.

  • determines the causes and consequences of the existence of market externalities based on the analysis of marginal external benefits and costs, calculates the price of goods in the «lemon» market
  • determines the economic feasibility of using the factor of production and the choice of technology, calculates the price of the factor of production, justifies the choice of the employee regarding work and rest
  • determines the size of individual and market demand and supply; analyzes their dynamics under the influence of price and non-price determinants; calculates the price and cross elasticity of supply and demand
  • calculates the optimal output volumes of competitive and non-competitive enterprises; substantiates the pricing policy of the enterprise in conjunction with the degree of product differentiation and the industry-wide situation
  • calculates production costs and performs economic justifications for choosing the minimum effective size of the enterprise and the optimal capacity of the operating enterprise
  • analyzes the impact of opportunity costs; builds a production possibilities curve
  • determines (analytically and graphically) the optimal consumer set

    Classroom work 1: Written work 0.05 Conducted: 1 module 2023/2024, 2 module 2023/2024, Study period, Offline Assessed: 1 module 2023/2024 Description: Classroom work is measured by such indicators as the level of students' preparation, their activity at seminars (answers to questions, participation in discussions, speeches, problem solving), performance of audit mini-controls. Measurement criteria: Written auditorium work (mini-controls) takes place on tickets, including several types of tasks (tests, open-ended questions, graphic tasks, qualitative and calculation tasks). For each task in the ticket, the maximum number of points awarded for their implementation is used. The results (assessments) of written work are summarized and reflected in the teacher's journal in the "classroom work" section. The maximum score for classroom work for the entire semester is 100.

    Research project: Project 0.1. Conducted: 1 module 2023/2024, 2 module 2023/2024, Study period, Offline Assessed: 1 module 2023/2024 Measurement criteria: The project is an independent study of the goods (services) market. Performed in a team of 5 people. The composition of the team members provides students on their own. The accrual of points at each stage occurs on a team basis and is calculated between the participants independently, making a contribution to everyone. The maximum number of points in a team is 500 (based on 100 points per participant) for all timely completion of tasks. Evaluation of the timely completion of all stages of the project of the ninth teacher, leading the seminars, with the involvement of a course assistant.
