Course Syllabus

Abstract

Students learn the Arabic language from Zero level. The course aims at developing basic communicative competences in Arabic that include: communicative competence, language competence, socio-cultural competence, cognitive competence.

Learning Objectives

  • Communicative competence – developing communicative skills through speaking, listening, reading and writing in communicative scenarios and topics chosen for the course 2. Language competence – learning new language units (orthographic, phonetic, lexical, grammar) related to communicative scenarios and topics of the course; learning language phenomena in the Arabic Language; various ways of expressing ideas in the Arabic Language. 3. Socio-cultural competence – introducing students to the culture, traditions and realia of the Arab East; developing skills of presenting their country and its culture when communicating with Arabs; 4. Cognitive competence– developing general and special academic skills; familiarizing students with available ways of autonomous learning of the Arabic Language and culture of the Middle East.
Expected Learning Outcomes

Expected Learning Outcomes

  • Fluent in translating sentences from Russian into Arabic and from Arabic into Russian using learned vocabulary and grammatical constructions (written and oral).
  • Knows the fundamental grammar of the Arabic language, is able to build a coherent text and dialogue on given topics.
  • Reads and writes Arabic script (printed and hand-written accordingly); - Uses approximately 250 lexical units, operates on the studied vocabulary in various contexts and situations; - Fluent in the basic grammar of the Arabic language, able to build a coherent text and dialogue on given topics.
  • Uses approximately 1000 lexical units, is able to apply the learned vocabulary in various contexts and situations, has the skills to search for unfamiliar words in the lexical dictionary.

  • Language skills: phonetic, lexical and grammatical side of speech.
  • Writing. writing skills development.
  • Speaking: the development of communicative skills of dialogic speech.
  • Reading: the development of the ability to read to oneself and understand simple authentic texts of different genres and styles with different depths of penetration into their contents, depending on the communicative task.
  • Listening: listening comprehension of teacher and student speech and verbal / non-verbal reaction to what they hear.

    The mark "excellent" is given for the correct completion of all assigned tasks. Depending on the quantity of errors the grade of “excellent” (8.9 or 10) is set. The rating “good”: if all the tasks are completed, but they contain substantial errors or if only 80% of the tasks are correctly completed. A rating of “satisfactory” is set either if 50% of the tasks are correctly completed, or there are gross errors. Assessment “unsatisfactory”: no more than 30% of the tasks are completed correctly.
