Course Syllabus

Abstract

Master ‘s research seminar is a compulsory part of the curriculum of the ICEF master’s programme “Financial Economics”. The main goals of the seminar is to teach students research techniques used in modern economics and finance, to familiarize them with the research agenda of ICEF faculty as well as the research methodology they employ , and help students to develop their research and presentation skills. The seminar is attended by both MSc student cohorts. It is conducted in English.

    The attendance of the students of Thematic/Reading groups/Spring mini conference is accounted. It will influence the final grade determined above in the following way: In addition to his/her own presentation student should attend minimum 5 meetings of thematic /Reading groups/Spring conference sessions per academic year. Each extra meeting missing decreases the grade by one point. For example, in case of only 4 seminars are attended by the student, his/her grade is decreased by 1 point. In case of only 3 seminars are attended, his/her grade is decreased by 2 points. … In case of on-line meetings only students with their camera on are accounted as attended by the Study office manager.

    G_(1st year)= 0.5⋅G_P+0.3⋅G_R+0.1⋅G_L+0.1⋅G_B The formula includes the following types of assessment: G_P – Presentation of the intermediate course paper results G_R – Grade for Reports submitted (=10 if all 5 seminar reports are received, 8 if 4 reports etc.) G_L – Introductory lectures session test G_B –Classes on data bases test In case of Reading group participation G_R is the grade for the presentation in the Reading group. The attendance of the students of Thematic/Reading groups/Spring mini conference is accounted.     G_(2nd year)= 0.5⋅G_P1+0.5⋅G_P2 The formula includes the following types of assessment: G_P1 – Presentation of the preliminary MSc Thesis results in the Thematic group G_P2 – Presentation of the intermediate MSc Thesis results at the Spring mini conference The attendance is accounted in the following way: The necessary number of seminars attended is 5 including one presentation in Thematic group. Otherwise, the grade will be discounted in the same way as in the 1st year formula.
