Аннотация
This course explores the economic dimensions of gender disparities, examining why men typically earn higher wages than women, the reasons behind gender biases in occupations, and women's underrepresentation in politics and executive jobs along with their higher average educational attainment and disproportionate share of domestic responsibilities. We consider the economic significance of these disparities and policies to deal with them.
We review economic research on gender gaps across various dimensions, including wage disparities, employment patterns, education, risk-taking, competitiveness, and personal traits.
Key topics include:
• Analysis of wage and employment gaps between genders
• Exploration of gender differences in educational achievement
• Examination of gender traits such as risk aversion and competitiveness
• Discussion on family dynamics, including decisions around contraception, fertility, and household roles
• Evaluation of public policies aimed at reducing gender disparities
Course participants will gain an in-depth understanding of the economic theories and empirical evidence surrounding gender gaps, the mechanisms driving these disparities, and the effectiveness of various policy interventions in promoting gender equality.
