Abstract
The course examines the spatial aspects of science and innovation emergence, dissemination and decline. It focuses on factors which have a significant impact on the development of innovations at a city and regional levels. The course covers theoretical issues (e.g. regional innovation systems) and cases of practical implementation of innovation policies at regions around the world. Among various innovation policy measures it will be pointed out smart specialization, cluster policies, urban experimentation including revitalization via fostering creative industries in special locations. Besides lectures a home task is planned for which a student should select a region or a city for the further analysis during the whole course so the databases, instruments and policies described at lectures then applied by the students and presented at classes.

Assessment Elements
- 10-minute written comment to the previous lecture topic

- 2023/2024 3rd moduleFinal control (F): written exam (answers to 10 test questions within 60 minutes). Project (P): home-prepared presentation to be defended at class. Class assignment (Cl): 10-minute written comment to the previous lecture topic. A total of 2 as-signments have to be taken. The assignment grades are included in equal weights in the Cl grade which weights 0,2 of final grade (G). The overall course grade (10-point scale) is calculated as a sum of G = 0,4 F + 0,4 P + 0,2 Cl. The overall course grade G (10-point scale) includes results achieved by students in their exam (F), project (P), and class assignment (Cl); it is rounded up to an integer number of points.
