Course Syllabus
Abstract
The course is devoted to different aspects of digital transformation of business. The first module covers the history of industrial revolutions, a special attention is given to Fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0). Different sides of digital transformation are considered, many examples based on real companies are given. A part of the course covers revolution of IT platforms themselves. Considerable time is reserved for deep dive into modern technologies which usually being considered as a base of digital business transformation. Complex cases of successful and unsuccessful transformation of real companies are on the focus as well. Social and humanitarian consequences of digital transformation analyzed at the last module.

- Understanding the history of industry development from mid XVII century till now
- Knowledge about Industry 4.0, current status and expectations about further industry development processes
- Detailed understanding about 9 aspects of digital transformation
- Knowledge about 3 IT platforms and how they support the industry development
- Understanding of difference between digital companies and companies to be digitalized
- Ability to make an analysis of competitive landscape in a particular industry
- High level understanding of main technologies which drive digital transformation
- Understanding of social and humanitarian consequences of massive digital transformation

- Able to analyze an IT platform being used by a company and provide SWOT analysis for it

- Able to correlate a narrow technology with a particular point on the Gartner hype cycle
- Able to generate suggestions of technologies implementation in a company which needs to be transformed
- Has a high level understanding of the following technologies: cloud computing, data analytics, distributed ledger, VR/AR, bioinformatics, internet of things, machine learning

Assessment Elements
- Home assignments:Finishing more than 80% of home assignments gives 1 point to final grade.
- Tests during the lecturesIf less than a half of all tests during the lectures passed, the student is failed. To receive 1 point a student should pass between 50% and 60% of the tests. For 2 points – between 60% and 70%, for 3 points – between 70% and 80%, for 4 points – 80% or more. If this case, i.e. if a student passes 50% or more tests, he or she can use the received points for the final grade. The results of the tests during the lectures “blocks” students’ final grade for the course. If a student passes less than 50% of the tests during the lectures, he or she gets final grade 1, 2 or 3 for the whole course (< 10% - 1; 10-30% - 2; 30-50% - 3) This grade will be used as the student’s final grade for the course regardless of the points got for other assignments. In this case, to pass the course, the student has to re-take tests during the lectures at the time of the additional exam week as outlined in the HSE examination policy.
- Guest speakers lecturesFinishing all 3 assignments based on guest speaker’s lectures gives 1 point to final grade.
- Final game/presentationFully representing the role and answering the question during the final game/presentation gives 1 or 2 points to final grade.
- Essay on the provided topicA Well-structured and argued essay on the provided topic should give 1 or 2 points to final grade.
