Course Syllabus
Abstract
In recent decades leading Russian companies began to enter external markets using foreign direct investments and taking control of foreign enterprises. EU market is the most popular foreign market for Russian capital. However, nowadays relations between Russia and the EU are developing in new circumstances hence business operations will take place in absolutely new environment. Russian companies have to take into account new challenges of doing business in EU. These factors define logic of this course. It includes case studies of real cases of entry of Russian companies into market of EU as well as traditional methods.
Learning Objectives
- The purpose of this course is to form students' ideas about, how in the best possible way defend the foreign economic interests of Russian companies, based on the knowledge of the economic and legal conditions of foreign companies activities in the EU market.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Be able to make сomparison of EU and Russian competition law
- Be aware of basic strategy of Russian companies entering the EU market
- Be aware of cases of applying sanctions and usage procedure of sanctions
- Be aware of legislature and economic environment of the most prospective markets
- Be aware of peculiarities of the EU monitoring of competition law compliance in comparison with national law in EU member-states
- Be aware of possible updating of Russian company’s strategy for entering EU market
- Be aware of the combination of interests of small and big businesses in EU competition policy
- Be aware of the competences of the European Commission
- Be aware of the dynamic of EU economic indices comparing with other regions
- Be aware of the program for competitive growth of the EU: implications for EU policy towards foreign business
- Be aware of the prospects for harmonization of Russian and EU economic legislature
- Be aware of the role of European offshore jurisdictions
- Be aware of the size of punitive sanctions
- Know about combination of domestic and external tasks in EU competition policy, also about cooperation with other countries
- Know advantages of the EU market
- Know banking procedures in the EU. Features of the law.
- Know cases of policy of Russian investors
- Know cases of Russian companies, which are entering the EU market
- Know peculiarities of EU competition law
- Know peculiarities of the EU policy against shadow economy

- Know the EU law doing business in the EU, including novelty of ecological legislation and rules of competition
- Know the issues of development of EU-Russia cooperation in competition policy in new agreement: possible alternatives
- Know the issues of Russia-EU cooperation in competition policy according to PCA (some results, problems and prospects for cooperation)
- Know the most important aspects of operation within the European market, with a focus on peculiarities of EU law regarding regulation of activity of foreign business
