Course Syllabus

Abstract

This course focuses on contemporary issues in international development studies within current changes to the system of international relations. It equips the student with both theoretical fundamentals and the field implementations scenarios. Special attention is attached to sustainable development agenda, continuous development and the resolution of the most pressing issues within the Agenda 2030 UN Programme as it prolongs the Millennium Development Goals of 2000 – 2015. Upon grasping the theoretical fundamentals of this relatively new discipline within the IR field and after scrutinizing both positive and negative cases of implementing the global development agenda in countries ascending to it, the student shall acquire a solid basis for future research and aspire to evaluate, forecast and outline prospective scenarios and dynamics of resolving the most acute international development issues.

  • This course aims to provide the student with a comprehensive understanding of major development theories of contemporary international development studies as well as sets as its goal to examine best practices and challenges of implementing the global development goals.

  • Envisages major issues and imbalances in development implementation strategies in various regions регионах – Outlines major interests the EU, the USA, China, Russia and other major countries and regions in implementing development goals
  • -Explains major theories of contemporary development studies and their critique – Explains political, economic and social particulars of implementing development concepts in key regions of the world – Demonstrates the institutional framework and the dynamics of global decision-making in the field of development – Highlights major trends within contemporary international development studies
  • Puts forward the economic, political and culturally specific particulars that foster development of some regions while inhibiting the development of other areas – Highlights the role of the UN as a global development efforts coordinating body, including those within the sustainable development and sustainable human development areas – Defines the polciies of Eurasian countries in the fostering the efforts to implement Agenda 2030
  • Outlines major issues and prospects of widening the development agenda – Defines major principles, trends and domestic transformations within countries ascending to development goals with binding obligations – Outlines major challenges while implementing development goals
