Abstract
The course "Evolution of Management Theory and Recent Trends in Management" is specifically designed for doctoral students to provide them an overview of the key theoretical streams in management research. It aims to create a solid theoretical foundation for their potential research in management, as well as to stimulate their understanding of theoretical positioning of the research they conduct in their doctoral thesis.
Learning Objectives
- The aim of the course is to provide doctoral students with an overview of the key theoretical streams in management research and to make them able to theoretically position their own studies.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- A student is able to describe the historical development of the key theoretical streams in management research
- A students is able to identify and apply key principle of contingency approach to their own research.
- The student is able to formulate the basic principles and define the core notions of behavioral theory of the firm
- The student is able to explain the notions of organizational learning and its mechanisms
- The student is able to formulate the basic principles and define the core notions of resource-dependency theory
- The student is able to formulate the basic principles and define the core notions of resource-based view
- The student is able to differentiate between resources, capabilities, and competences.
- The student is able to formulate the basic principles and define the core notions of network theory

- 4. Resource-based view of the firm as a new strategic management paradigm.
- 5. Network theory.
- 6. Institutional theory.
- 7. Organizational ecology theory.
- 8. Interpretation processes within an organization and the concept of organizational sensemaking.

Interim Assessment
