Course Syllabus
Abstract
The course covers six main topics: research basics and components; research motivation and literature review; qualitative and quantitative research design; data collection and analysis; reporting and communication of the research results; research ethics. These topics cover the main stages of the research process, including the formulation and justification of a research question, analysis of the previous literature on the research topic and its summary, development of an appropriate research methodology, data collection and sampling, analysis of the results in a close compliance of the research with research ethics guidelines.
Learning Objectives
- · to make informed decisions on the research design of their academic papers
- · to understand and adhere to benchmark standards of academic research;
- · to understand the importance of theoretical foundation of their research;
- · to apply the principles of an effective literature review;
- · to recognize the importance of a research framework;
- · to understand widely used research methods and data analysis techniques;
- · to address data collection and sampling issues as well as bias and validity issues;
- · to understand the main principles of research ethics and the consequences of research misconduct.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Be able to understand the basic steps of the research process.
- Understanding of the basic concepts and main components of Academic research based on the recommendations for writing a Term paper as the main guiding document
- The knowledge of the instruments and approaches to find articles on the chosen research and organise the articles in the form of a specially tailored literature review table paying attention to the level of maturity of a research field and article types.
- Conducting a structured literature review based on theoretical framework to formulate testable research hypotheses
- Understanding of the main components of research motivation and their functions in the Term paper text, knowing the limitations of a research gap focused approach
- Ability to formulate a research problem and research question(s) that are meaningful for managerial practice
- Justifying the research design based on the formulation of the research problem and research question(s), presenting your research, giving and receiving feedback
- Understanding of widely used research methods and data analysis techniques, addressing data collection and sampling issues as well as bias and validity issues
