HSE: A Community of New Professionals

On March 6th 2013 an open discussion on ‘Freedom and Responsibility in the Public Space’ took place at the HSE.

Caucasus 2020: Speaking about Painful Problems Honestly

On December 11th, 2012, the youth forum ‘Caucasus 2020’ took place at the HSE. The event was organized jointly by the HSE Chamber of Nationalities club and the Association of World Economy, a student organization. Viktoria Nosik, second-year student of the HSE Faculty of Media Communications, covered the event for the HSE News Service.

Russia Holland Inter-University Partnership

On the 15th-16th November on the eve of the “Crossroads” Russia- Holland year, HSE held a conference for the directors of leading universities in Holland and Russia. “The Russia-Holland inter-university partnership: new academic and scientific priorities.”

Birth and Revival of Universities

On October 19th and 20th 2012, the 3rd International Conference of the Russian Association of Higher Education Researchers ‘The Birth and Revival of Universities’ took place at the HSE.

ERC Grants: Options and Opportunities

On September 18th 2012, a delegation from the European Research Council (ERC) visited the Higher School of Economics. ERC representatives spoke about how Russian researchers can access the grant programme of the Council.

University Open Day

From the very beginning, the Higher School of Economics has been unique among Russian universities in terms of its openness to the world, and a recent open air day in Gorky Park is just one more example of this. For the first time, not only prospective students and their parents, but literally the ‘man in the street’ were all able to get information about the HSE, attend lectures by some of the best professors and guest experts, and, the most important, to actually see the people who make up the university. And all of this happened in a place named ‘HSE Land’ by the organizers, in the open air on the bank of the Moskva River in a beautiful park setting.

Human Rights: European View and Russian Practice

In June this year, the international school ‘Integrating Europe through Human Rights: comparing the exercise of basic freedoms’ took place at the HSE. The event was a joint initiative between the HSE and the University of Bologna and organized by the HSE Department of Public Policy.

Academic Council: New Departments and Achievements

On June 29th 2012, the latest regular session of the Higher School of Economics Academic Council took place at the HSE. The agenda included information on the launch of new faculties and departments, approval of certain regulatory documents, as well as the results of the voting process for the teaching staff competition.

Civil Society: Competition of Ideas and Interests

On June 19th Charles Buxton, manager of regional programmes in Central Asia and post-Soviet countries of the International NGO Training & Research Centre — INTRAC, spoke at the HSE on ‘Civil Society at a Crossroads: View from the Development Sector’ at a seminar organized by the HSE Center for Studies of Civil Society and Nonprofit Sector (CSCSNS).

Michael McFaul: ‘We Hope that We’ll Have a Normal Relationship’

On May 25th Michael McFaul, US Ambassador in Russia, professor at Stanford University, gave an open lecture to the students of the Higher School of Economics.
