Competitions in information security were organized at HSE by the student group, HSE InfoSec, with the support of FBK CyberSecurity and the Student Initiative Support Centre. They were run in CTF format.

HSE provides financial assistance to students who move out of the student dormitories and rent an apartment. This year, the competition for such allowances was particularly stiff.

HSE has received several questions from students who participated in the competition for financial assistance for rental appartments. Here, we answer the main questions and explain the situation.

The Russia-Uruguay match was shown on a big screen in the media courtyard, offering teachers, staff, and students at HSE the chance to cheer on their chosen side. Exchange students from other countries also joined in. Although the match was somewhat disappointing, the atmosphere in the media courtyard was celebratory and positive. The Student Initiative Support Centre is now inviting students for summer internships.

The Iron Egg is awarded annually to the winners of a student vote for their contribution towards extracurricular life at the university. For the first time ever, this year’s awards ceremony took place in a new interactive format with students selecting not only the best student organisations, but also the best journalistic work by a university media source, as well as most active student.

For the third year in a row, HSE will continue to provide financial assistance to students who move out of the student dormitories and rent an apartment. This year, the number of students who will receive assistance will increase to 1000. The monthly payment will be 10000 rubles over the period from 01.09.2018 to 30.06.2019.

The award ceremony for the ‘Iron Egg’ Student Award, which has recognized the projects that HSE students consider the most relevant and outstanding for 14 years, will be held at the end of the current academic year. Students will get a chance to vote online, first to nominate, and then select the winners.

Starting from June 30th, 2018, HSE undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students will be able to get their state scholarships only with their MIR cards. There are three ways to reissue the card, including getting a unique HSE-designed card. The main thing to remember is that, no matter which way you choose, you need to finalize everything by June 30th, 2018.

Evgenia Okopnaya, a first year student in Applied Mathematics and Information Science at HSE, together with her peers, Aliya Khasanova and Diana Zagidullina, recently participated in the START Hack Hackathon at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. START Hack is a programing competition which attracts over 350 students, young entrepreneurs and programmers annually. Participants try to solve tasks set by big companies. Evgenia Okopnaya shared her impressions of the event.

12 projects have been named as winners in the winter Student Project Contest. These projects will get financial and organizational support from HSE, and the initiatives will be implemented this year.

On January 25, HSE Vice Rector Igor Chirikov and staff of the Student Initiative Support Centre met with the heads of the University’s student associations. The participants of the meeting, which was organized by the HSE Student Council, summarized the results and outcomes of HSE’s jubilee year 2017, as well as discussed plans for 2018.
